Position Summary

At the University of Idaho, in the College of Business and Economics, the Associate Dean collaborates with the Dean, Department Heads, faculty, staff, and students to provide academic leadership for, and management of the pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, and service. The Associate Dean reports to the Dean and works with the leadership planning strategically, advocating for the college and associated programs, directing and conducting assessment activities and improvement efforts, engaging in college development work (fund raising), and contributing to related leadership and administrative activities. The Associate Dean leads the efforts for the college-level core curriculum, the AACSB re-accreditation processes, and the promotion of excellence in research scholarship. The Associate Dean works to ensure fairness for all people; advances efforts to promote diversity and equity; and is an effective ambassador with stakeholders within the college, the university, and the external community.
The rank of Associate or Full Professor is negotiable depending on experience and scholarly achievements. Tenure is also negotiable after a short probationary period that is consistent with University of Idaho policies and procedures.


Job Duty Function Provide leadership and coordination of instructional activities in the college including curriculum development and outcomes assessment
Job Duties/Responsibilities

Work with the Assistant Dean for Recruiting, Retention and Assessment to lead and/or coordinate activities related to curriculum review and development, student recruiting, retention, and placement with and among Department Heads, faculty and staff. In particular, coordinate the evolution of the college-wide business core curriculum, including business, accounting, economics, and business law CBE core courses to ensure common learning goals are achieved. Work with faculty and Department Heads to facilitate assessment and development of all core courses. Collaborate with colleagues within the college and across campus to identify opportunities to create innovative programs leading to enhanced student outcomes and a vibrant academic community.

Job Duty Function Accreditation data collection, analysis, and reporting
Job Duties/Responsibilities

Perform the leading role in the college’s AACSB reaccreditation efforts. Manage and coordinate data collection, analysis, and reporting for the college’s assessment and accreditation needs. Primary responsibility for preparing the AACSB report and responding to surveys and other requests for information as appropriate. Coordinate the efforts of the Department Heads and the Director of the PGA Program in their accreditation processes.

Job Duty Function Leadership for CBE-wide programs
Job Duties/Responsibilities

Provide leadership for CBE-wide programs including the Barker Trading and Capital Management, Idaho Entrepreneurship Program, the PGA Program, and the Executive MBA program. Provide strategic input and guidance to the “leads” and “directors” of these programs. Consider and analyze potential additions to the CBE’s portfolio of academic offerings.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Act on all matters delegated by the Dean. Effectively serve as the “Chief Operating Officer” of the college. Act on the Dean’s behalf when needed. Serve on the UI Associate Dean’s Council and other committees and task forces as appropriate and requested.

Job Duty Function CBE Facilities, Technology, and Website
Job Duties/Responsibilities

Work closely with the CBE Leadership Team and many others within the college and across the university. Provide guidance, leadership, and managerial oversight resulting in excellent CBE facilities, technology, and website and related communications.


Minimum Qualifications

- Applicants must possess management experience and an earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degree.
- Applicants must demonstrate record of significant leadership experience, professional accomplishment, and administrative effectiveness.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience developing and/or managing innovative curricula and experiential learning programs is highly desirable.
- Experience in an academic environment at the level of Department Head or above, and with AACSB accreditation practices is preferred.
