Position Summary

The University of Idaho seeks two tenure-track faculty members at the assistant or associate professor rank with appointments in academic departments appropriate to their training and expertise. The positions are targeted toward modeling complex biological systems. The area of modeling expertise is open, but we are particularly interested to grow research capacity in mathematical biology (including both deterministic and stochastic processes); data analytics; machine learning; systems modeling; or molecular modeling. The successful candidates will have an opportunity to collaborate with empirical researchers and other modelers in the Center for Modeling Complex Interactions. Teaching responsibilities will be assigned by the home department.

Minimum Qualifications

Assistant Professor
•Education: Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, computational biology, computer science, or other related field by summer 2018.
•Expertise in an area of modeling applicable to complex biological systems
•Demonstrated experience in publishing research results in relevant field
•Evidence of potential for successful teaching of undergraduates and graduate students in field of expertise
•Evidence of potential to acquire external funding
•Ability to pass a background check
Associate Professor
•Education: Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, computational biology, computer science, or other related field by the time of application
• 5 or more years of faculty experience beyond the Ph.D.
• Expertise in an area of modeling applicable to complex biological systems
•Leadership in collaborative, interdisciplinary research
•Strong publication record in relevant field
•Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate student level in field of expertise
•Record of gaining external research funding in field of expertise
•Ability to pass a background check

Preferred Qualifications

Assistant Professor
•Evidence of productive post-doctoral experience
•Evidence that the candidate will contribute to our highly interdisciplinary, collaborative research environment
Associate Professor
•Evidence that the candidate will contribute to our highly interdisciplinary, collaborative research environment
•Ability to lead an interdisciplinary team
