Position Summary

A full-time (academic year appointment), tenure-track faculty position at the entry-level Assistant Professor rank. This position is responsible for leading the College’s Entrepreneurship Law Clinic. The Clinic is devoted to outreach to the startup and small business community in Idaho. It serves as the base of administration for the PTO-sponsored Patent Pro Bono program for the State of Idaho and also operates as a PTO Certified Trademark Clinic. The position is located at the College’s Boise location. In addition to supervision of clinic students, the position is responsible for teaching two classes in related subjects, developing mentoring relationships with students, advising students on curricular and co-curricular activities, and developing a scholarly, outreach, and engagement agenda that will enrich the scholarly community. The faculty member will also represent the law school through attendance at scholarly conferences, as well as through publication in national and/or international scholarly journals, which may include interdisciplinary placements.

Engage in outreach and engagement relevant to the Entrepreneurship Law Clinic and the PTO-sponsored Patent Pro Bono Program, which may include participation in local, statewide, national, and international associations, including professional organizations such as bar associations, scholarly organizations, and law-reform organizations such as the American Law Institute and the American Bar Association.

Contribute to the College, the University, and the legal profession by serving on college and university committees and projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have: (1) a J.D. from an ABA-accredited school or the equivalent; (2) a distinguished academic record; (3) a record or the promise of teaching excellence; (4) at least five years of post-J.D. practice, clerking, or teaching experience, two years of which must have been spent primarily in areas relevant to a clinic focused on outreach to the startup community; (5) active membership in at least one state bar and the ability to obtain Idaho bar admission within one year; and (6) a record or the promise of scholarly productivity.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications for this position are: (1) teaching experience in the law clinic setting; (2) demonstrated ability to be a team player; (3) experience in trademark prosecution before the PTO; and (4) registration with the PTO as a patent attorney.
